From the Beginning ...
Welcome to Oakleigh Kai's story! We will be posting updates on here as Oakleigh spends time growing bigger and stronger in the NICU!
Many know how we ended up in the NICU, but some may not so here is a brief over view of the last 2 months. We did the routine anatomy scan around 22 weeks and they called to ask for a repeat scan. They said they didn't get all the pictures they needed and not to be too worried. Deep down I had a feeling that something was amiss but I tried to believe the best. We did a repeat scan at 26 weeks. We went camping that weekend and recieved a call that the scans were abnormal and that we were being referred to a Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor. We were booked with him within a week, which made us think things were a bit more complex than we originally thought. We went to the MFM doctor and did another scan. Then we were taken to his office to go over the findings. He told us there was not much chance our baby would survive. There were many fetal anomalies and her heart would most likely give out in the next few weeks. We told him we wanted to continue the pregnancy for as long as we have her for. Week by week we prayed that God would show His strength and perform a miracle with our baby girl. Each week He proved Himself strong and the prognosis kept getting better. We went from not knowing if we would ever meet our baby earthside to being told our baby will survive through the pregnancy. And at 36 weeks 6 days we went in for a scheduled c-section. We still were not sure what the outcome would be, but here we are!

Oakleigh's Start to life
09/08/2025
Oakleigh Kai (meaning strong warrior) was born at 4 pm. She was born via a c-section and came out kicking with a strong set of lungs! She weighed 2lbs 14oz and was 14 inches long. She was placed on room flow oxygen immediately upon arrival but no other interventions were needed. We were able to briefly see sweet baby girl and then she was quickly taken to the NICU. She is doing remarkably well for what we thought we might be facing. She had scans on 9/9 to check out her heart, kidneys, and brain. She also had xrays on her arms and legs. We can't begin to explain all the ways that God has healed our little girl. She is truly a miracle! Her heart had fluid around it in utero and the scans on 9/9 there was NONE. We are praising Jesus for the way He is working. She also has been weaned from 6 liters to 3 liters of room flow oxygen. Oakleigh has had her feeds increased as well, and is tolerating them! She is being fed through a feeding tube currently since she is so tiny. I have gotten to hold her 2 times now and cherish every moment of it! Thank you all for the prayers. Continue to pray that she would grow and that she would get the strength she needs to come home.
